Always Come Back

There's always something to do in your own backyard, grab a Glass of Rose. I'll be here

Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil

My girlfriend Nic invited me to go to Michael Jackson Cirque Du Soleil the other night.  What a treat!!

I love  grand spectacle music concerts and I love Cirque Du Soleil.  I’m the person sitting in front of you singing out loud (probably off key and annoying you), dancing in my seat willing to jump up  and exuberantly clap hands if the performers give the smallest hint to do so.

Cirque puts on a great show.  This show was more dancing than aerobatics but still managed to take my breath away at times.

She crawled out of a book, I swear she was rubber

Pole Dancing is amazing I’d kills for 1/4 of her strength

You try dancing attached to this contraption

I didn’t realize how much the music of Michael Jackson was and is part of my life. Let’t talk Music – just his music – I don’t want to talk about his personal life. I have specific memories relating to certain songs of his.

Thriller – Monumental!  Groundbreaking! 1982!  Choreography that is recognizable and copied with great joy to whomever is doing it.  (a quick search on youtube will give you a variety of videos – weddings, lego, prisons, animated, tv shows, movies) I remember sitting with my brother watching MTV in a hotel room – we were glued to the tv. The costumes, the choreography, it was bliss.  MTV was airing it 2 times an hour to meet the demand for the 14 minute video. I was hooked to music videos.  For years and years after watching MJ’s Thriller video  my brother and I would sit together and bond over music videos.

Billy Jean – My brother and I trying to learn to do the moon walk.  Of course my brother easily picked it up.

The Way You Make Me Feel – Picture this: a late 80’s (1987) teen club in Kamloops (the one on the North Shore, not Checkers). Dancing in the typical girl circle with Kyna, Michelle, Chrissie and other gal pals with our purses in a pile in the middle, hoping to catch they eye of an out of town KIBIHT player.  I remember wanting the dress, the bangles, the boots and of course the hair of the actress in the video.  I still love short dresses and good boots.

Now I’m a mom and Michael Jackson is still in my life.  I play Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough, PYT and other Jackson classics for  my daughter.  She jumps on the bed and I tell her how good this song or that song.

Thanks again Nic  I had a great evening.

  2. This must have been fantastic! I remember liking Michael’s music in the ’80s. Of course I tried to keep that to myself seeing as my brothers were into heavy metal at the time, Liking Michael was considered so uncool; but it’s like you said you look back and realize how much apart of your life it was. I once won a dance contest at a bar doing Michael Jackson moves!! Ok so I had a bit to drink, but I still won first prize! haha!
